Our Mission
History and FoundingBlue Water Scholarship Fund t was founded in 2017 by long-time friends and colleagues Jaime Cleveland, John Curtin, and Jim Hoy. All of our founders came from blue collar families (thus the blue in our name) and found success beyond their wildest expectations in the maritime industry. Blue Water was borne out of their desire to help others have the same opportunities they were fortunate enough to have. The Blue Water Scholarship Fund is a tax exempt organization recognized under section 501 (c) (3) of the United States Internal Revenue code.

What is a Maritime Academy?
A Maritime Academy is a four year state school that specializes in training students for various positions in the maritime industry.
These schools combine a regimental system with a "normal university" and practical seagoing experience on both dedicated training and commercial seagoing vessels. This system gives the cadets hands-on experience and allows them to graduate with both a bachelors degree in their field of study and a USCG license as either a Third Mate or Third Assistant Engineer that qualifies them to sail in these positions on any sized US flagged ship operating anywhere in the world. After graduation, the employment rates for licensed graduates from these five Maritime Academies typically exceed 90%. |
