We are currently in the process of transitioning to an online application platform and this will be complete prior to applications being accepted for the coming summer sea term 2024.  Do not submit an application prior to these windows unless you are in an emergency situation and need immediate assistance.
 
If you are in an emergency situation you must provide a completed application form from below, a cover letter explaining the nature of the emergency,  a signed financial aid release form for your school, and provide the other documents requested.  The application and financial release form must be submitted to the us via email at [email protected]

Application Windows:

For Summer Sea Term: 9 February - 24 March
Fall (funding for the coming academic year): 01 June - 01 August
​For Winter Sea Term:  01 October - 15 November
In cases of emergency, applications will be considered at any time but a cover letter must be attached explaining in detail the nature of the emergency.

Award

Blue Water Scholarship Fund Intends to Award a number of scholarships annually between $250 and $10,000 each. Awards will be based on the merit of the applicants received and the financial situation of the scholarship fund on the given year.*

*Blue Water Scholarship Fund may approve funding to cover general expenses at its sole discretion in exceptional circumstances.

​Eligibility

To be considered eligible applicants must meet the following criteria:
  • Financial need must be demonstrated
  • Applicants must enroll in a course of study that includes the USCG license program at one of the State Maritime Academies; non-license courses of study are not eligible.
  • Applicants should demonstrate exceptional personal drive and desire to succeed not just in academics but through other extracurricular activities. This could include, sports, community activities, jobs, clubs, or other activities.
  • While academic achievement is important, ideal candidates will also possess excellent interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence.
  • Blue Water Scholarship Fund may hold additional interviews in person or over the phone to help determine applicant suitability.
  • Scholarships will be awarded on a one-time basis with renewals considered for succeeding years at a given Maritime Academy based on the academic and personal achievement of the applicant in the preceding year.
  • All applicants must be US citizens and provide evidence thereof​
Blue Water Scholarship Fund reserves the right to waive any of these requirements at its sole discretion in consideration of extenuating circumstances.

To be considered for a scholarship from the Blue Water Scholarship Fund, you must complete this application in its entirety as well as the financial aid release form for your school, and provide all the documents requested. Applicants: complete and sign only the sections in blue then forward to your school's financial aid department.  The financial aid department will fill in the rest of the information and send the completed form to BWSF.
